More Health: the global platform for digital health management

Written by Roger Peverelli and Reggy de Feniks - Founders The DIA Community on May 20, 2021

The health insurance sector is evolving, with health insurers focusing more on helping their customers lead healthier lives and improving their well-being. With the rapid development and fast growth of mobile internet, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, digital health management is emerging as a critical component for health insurance. It allows insurers to provide their customers with personalised health- and well-being plans and recommendations, while at the same time improving underwriting and risk control.

More Health is a health technology company focused on behaviour data and artificial intelligence. Established in 2015, they now have over 80 million users, whom they help to achieve healthier behaviours and reduce the risk of diseases. Their data-driven health management platform empowers the digitalisation of underwriting, customer service and risk control for health insurance. More Health already works with more than 60 insurance companies in China.

How it works
More Health uses its data-driven health management platform to help health insurance companies with underwriting, health services and risk control. It provides a convenient one-stop solution for insurers, insurance agents and customers.
Their platform builds a bridge between insurers and their customers, allowing for high frequency interaction – all geared towards helping people get well, be well and stay well.
The platform connects with more than 300 different smart devices, including smart bracelets, sphygmomanometers, glucometers, body fat calculators, thermometers and more, enabling customers to easily measure and track their health condition and activities at home or on-the-go.

More Health and Canada Wellness Institute, a global leader in medically-based fitness services, have created a joint venture company that integrates new medical fitness facilities and online solutions across China. More Health leverages CWI’s 24 years of experience and expertise in chronic disease management, to provide a solution for insurers to reduce their customers’ claim rate. Artificial Intelligence is applied to optimise the process of underwriting and claims management.

Encouraging customers to improve their health and well-being
As part of its digital health management platform, More Health has developed More Plus: an IoT health big data platform to help support the collection of health data. The H-platform is focused on health risk assessment, aimed to quantify each individual user’s health risk, based on analysis and assessment of their risk factors. Through the M-platform, an AI-based health intervention platform, personalised wellness plans are prescribed, focused on exercise, sleep, diet and health literacy – helping customers to develop and maintain healthy behaviours and achieve better health. More Health has created a unique health behaviour index, the M-score.  The higher the M-score, the better a customer is following the recommendations in their personalised health- and wellness plan. By increasing their M-score, customers can earn “More Coins”, which can be used for more health benefits.

Helping insurers drive innovation and reduce risk
Through the dynamic nature of the H- and M-score, More Health can help insurers to develop new insurance products promoting healthier lifestyles and well-being – products that can help insurers differentiate themselves in a crowded market. More Health can help drive innovation in insurance by combining effective health management with insurance services.

For insurance companies More Health provides a digital value-adding platform, which allows them to perform risk assessment, stratification of customers, analyse customers’ health conditions and insurance policies. It also helps insurance companies to redefine services, control medical costs and develop innovative insurance products.

With the integration of health services and health management, More Health now provides services and solutions to more than 80 insurance companies. Together they’ve developed many successful cases, combining health insurance and health management. And there is still a lot of potential to go even further: for example by tackling the enormous challenge of chronic diseases. In China alone, estimates are that 200-300 million people are suffering from a chronic disease. More Health is working closely with insurers and reinsurers to design and develop insurance products for chronic diseases such as hepatitis B and diabetes.

Who is More Health?
More Health was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in Beijing. After six years of development, More Health has now closed 4 rounds of financing with a total amount of 1 billion RMB. Investors include insurers such as Sunshine Insurance Group and CPIC, as well as state-owned investment fund CITIC and venture capital funds.
More Health received the 2020 Sunrise High Tech – High Growth award at the 2020 Beijing International Venture Capital Summit.
